Mark Sanchez Is Not Camera Shy

July 19, 2010 – 11:00 am by Chris Fedor

Last year the New York Jets opened up with a rookie head coach and a rookie quarterback.  Those two things are not usually a formula for success in the NFL. However, Rex Ryan and Mark Sanchez proved a lot of doubters wrong last year. Despite sneaking into the playoffs with a 9-7 record as a wild card team, the J-E-T-S Jets, Jets, Jets made it all the way to the AFC Championship game last year. Mark Sanchez had an up and down rookie season and his numbers weren’t very good, but he was able to solidify the quarterback position for the Jets, he played some of his best ball of the year in the playoffs, and never shied away from the bright lights. After a successful season and some offseason acquisitions, you can be sure the Jets will enter 2010 with the same kind of swagger that led to their success last year.

Mark Sanchez joined Fox Sports Radio with Petros and Money to talk about this upcoming season for the Jets, Rex Ryan’s comments about his team being the favorites to win it all this season, and how he feels about having cameras at the Jets training camp.

On Rex Ryan saying the Jets should be the favorites this year:

“That sounds like Rex. I believe he said it for sure. That’s good. He tells us in all of our meetings that he’s not afraid to talk about the Super Bowl and say how much he wants to be there and how we deserve to be there when we put in the right amount of work and win enough games. That’s just Rex being Rex and we love it.”

On dealing with cameras at training camp:

“I was a little skeptical about it at the beginning when I first heard about it a couple months ago but they came out for our minicamp and a couple of the OTA’s. It’s really not intrusive. They’re gonna put like hidden cameras so you won’t even see them in the meeting room and stuff. You just act like yourself and just play ball and not even think about it really. After the first few minutes, you forget that the cameras are even there. It’s cool and I think the fans really enjoy it.  They get a good look at all the different personalities on the team and we have plenty of them. It’s gonna be fun for them.”

On how he has dealt with the exposure that comes from being the Jets starting quarterback:

“I remember doing my first interview with you. I’m the same guy. A lot of things around me have changed, but I’m the same guy. I’ve got my family around me all the time I happened to have met a pretty cool girl who is fun to hang out with, and we’ll see how that goes. My focus is still football. I think the guys on this team know that and judging by the attendance this week, we had a little camp of our own just working out down here at Mission Viejo High School the last four or five days. We had Jerricho (Cotchery), Santonio (Holmes), Dustin Keller, Tony Richardson, David Clowney and a bunch of the receivers come out and stay with me.  I put ‘em up in a nice hotel, got ‘em some good dinner, went to a couple of baseball games, went to the All Star game, Home Run Derby, and took ‘em to the Espy’s.  Pretty much the same guy.  Just having a lot of fun and focusing and getting ready to go for the season.”
