Anthony Fasano Calls Miami Fans ‘Sick’ and Disloyal for Wanting Dolphins to Tank the Season for Andrew Luck

October 26, 2011 – 6:00 am by Steven Cuce

How much worse could things get in Miami? The 0-6 Dolphins have had just about everything go wrong for them in 2011. Their starting quarterback Chad Henne was booed in training camp and then suffered a season-ending shoulder injury recently. Matt Moore, who was signed to replace Henne, now has bruised ribs, prompting Miami to go out and sign yet another castaway QB. They decided on former Bills 1st-rounder JP Losman.

Miami’s tight end, Anthony Fasano, has 10 receptions for 152 yards and one touchdown this season, but sounds fed up with the whole environment down in South Beach. You can appreciate his honesty in the following interview being disgusted by all the fans who are rooting for the Dolphins demise. It is completely understandable as to why Fasano is irate, but at the same time Andrew Luck is just what the doctor ordered for this franchise next year if they can secure the number one pick in the 2012 NFL draft.

Anthony Fasano joined WFAN in New York with Joe and Evan to discuss the state of the Miami Dolphins locker room right now at 0-6, Dolphins fans wanting the team to tank the season in order to get Andrew Luck, the Dolphins honoring the Florida Gators National Championship team with Tim Tebow in the building last Sunday, the Dolphins defense imploding in the last few minutes against the Broncos and Chad Henne being the long term answer for the Dolphins organization at the quarterback position.

How about the team right now? It has been a struggle to start the season. How is that locker room right now? Do you have any confidence with the way this season has started at 0-6?

“It’s been tough. No matter how you try to approach it the start of the season has been tough. I think it starts with Tony Sparano. He sets a great challenge for us week in and week out. He keeps us motivated and we are professionals, so we have to come to work every day and find a challenge and try to improve this thing and fix it and find solutions. I’m proud with the way our team has handled this situation so far, but it’s definitely not acceptable. We are going to try to turn it around.”

It’s gotta be difficult when basically your fan base is rooting against you guys? They basically want to see you lose every game, so you can get the kid, Andrew Luck, out of Stanford. That’s gotta be a little disheartening. Isn’t it?

“It’s sick actually. I can’t even fathom those thoughts of those people that conjure up that stuff. They have never played sports and pretty much aren’t really our loyal fans. I can’t really put any weight into that and I know the players don’t listen to it. It’s a shame, but people are going to talk and we just have to block that out.”

Did it bother you that the Dolphins honored the Florida Gators National Championship team with Tim Tebow in the building?

“Yeah it was awful. Showing up at the stadium and seeing all the Gator stuff and the Tebow stuff. It was disheartening, but as players we kind of put ourselves in that position because the Dolphins are in the business of winning football games and making money. We haven’t been winning football games, but it’s still a smack in the face and it’s unfortunate we couldn’t rain on their parade and get the win.”

What exactly happened in the last couple of minutes of that game against the Denver Broncos?

“It’s pretty disheartening especially when we had a rough start and really haven’t been in too many games in the 4th quarter. You are up two scores in the 4th quarter and you start getting that winning feeling back in the huddle and your offense was not able to close out the four minute drive and run the clock out and our defense wasn’t able to stop them. We also gave up an onside kick. We just had things fall apart pretty fast that turned into a loss for us.”

Can Chad Henne be the guy for this franchise? Do you think Chad Henne can be the long term answer at quarterback for this franchise?

“I do. I think he has all the tools. I think he showed some really good growing signs earlier in the year and he’s a hard working kid. I love playing with him. It’s a shame what happened to him. I plan on him coming back better than ever.”

  2. This guy is dilusional.

  3. We already suck. We just want Luck

By Ness on Oct 26, 2011

  4. Gotta agree with BT. If he thinks Henne has all the tools to be a successful starting QB, that’s total delusionality (real word?). Maybe Henne has all the tool but he’s missing a major something as a starter, at least for the Phins. Maybe he could do better in another system, I dunno. As for raggin on the fans, like he said, the Dolphins are in the business of winning games and they are NOT doing their job. Those fans that still go to the games are saints!

  6. I’m 1 fan he’s not talking about. It’s really stupid to be thinking that this guy Luck is the cure all for the Dolphins. Anything can happen between now and the next draft that all you fake fans wanting the team to tank for 1 guy is stupid. Why is it all about Luck when you will have more than just him to choose from as far as QB’s go?

You look at all the options and pick the best fit. Not do a Indianapolis Colt trick by building the team all around Payton Manning. Now the Colts have no Manning and look where they are at. As a Dolphins fan I say screw you guys for wanting the team to “Suck for Luck”. We could get Luck and then end up losing him in a game to the Chargers and then what? We are right back where we started at. Wasn’t Parcells supposed to put the parts in place to get us back winning games? What happened? Why does it look like we have a coach that hasn’t a clue on what they are doing ? The fact the team is 0-6 after Parcells was suppossed to bring in people to help the team get back to it’s winning ways is pretty screwed up.

We need a coach that can coach and train his successor on the spot. Not a guy learning on his own with no support from the owner on down. So yea get a coach 1st and then worry about getting a QB that can use the whole team to knock the Patriots off the #1 spot in our division.

  7. The Phish stinks from the head down. Ross is a loser and has no credibility. No coach worth his or HER salt would come to this club with Ross still being the owner!

Out with Ross, Ireland (where is this chicken hiding?) and Sparano.

    By go4it on Oct 26, 2011

  8. Bottom-line – the team only has themselves to blame for the predicament they are in. If they don’t like it – START WINNING SOME GAMES. It’s really that simple, but as this team has shown, they so far are incapable and unable…and as it stands right now, who honestly things they’ll win one? Maybe two? Puh-leeze…

By compcomplex on Oct 26, 2011

  9. Pages of talk for that tiny little stat line Anthony Fasano should learn to talk with his game. We suck because we have mediocre to bad players like Mr Fasano starting at most positions. Sean Smith, Reshad Jones, Kevin Burnett these are mediocre to bad STARTERS! Not to mention Karlos Dansby never made a pro bowl overrated and over paid so called “stars” like Brandon Marshall. Incognito is bad. Jon Jerry bad we passed on Jimmy Graham for this guy. Its unfortunate because a lot of the players on the roster including some of the guys I mentioned have some potential that can’t be tapped due to coaching and decision making from the top. I can only imagine how players feel when some of these decisions are made. I mean if I know Ireland made a bonehead move not taking Graham the team must know it too. And the team like the fans know these guys are morons. Who wants to give 100 percent for a bunch of morons.

    By Gojerry98 on Oct 26, 2011

  10. fasano has no right to revile the fans. Management put us here. Fans have not been losing games; Sparano and crew and Steve Ross have put us where we are now.

    By Phyllis O'Brien on Oct 26, 2011

  11. Fasano n Henne both wont be back next year

    By Suck4Luck on Oct 26, 2011

  12. This team has no accountability. For Fasano to talk on WFAN, a NY radio station, is a joke. This team needs an enema. Soon Fasano will be playing in the Arena league.

By Dave on Oct 26, 2011

  13. 1) Tom Brady goes to the Detroit Lions and is honoured for his days in Michigan by the Lions. Sounds stupid eh? Well I sat and watched the equivalent last Week.
    2) Miami really wants to open up the offense and be an exciting team. Who do they sign . The O.C of the HIGH FLYING Cleveland Browns???
    yup and 3
Don’t fire the head coach. Go out and actively pursue a coach before you get rid of the old one . And when he turns you down you sign the Coach you were trying to replace to a 2 YEAR DEAL…
Do you see a trend here. I have been a Dolphin fan for 41 yrs and I have never seen it worse…
I will watch every Week and still cheer for them, because cheering for your team to lose is as bad as them throwing a game .
Go Dolphins!!. Ir has to get better.

  14. I’m a fan! Period. I remember the Shula years. When Shula left and Marino hung on to his glory years. New ownership came in and tried to win quickly. Coach Johnson was brought in to clean house and win a championship in a short period of time. That was possibly the end of the good times. You don’t just win by signing a contract. Johnson was supposed to be the answer. He wasn’t. And the bleeding hasn’t stopped. Parcels was the “new” answer. He definitely wasn’t. I love Coach Sparano but with two major losing seasons under his belt he might as well quit now.
Give me ANY TEAM prior to 2000. I have no interest in going to any game and watch a bunch of multi-millionaires drop passes, miss routes, miss tackles and most of all lose games after being up two scores with less than 3 minutes on the clock. Since 2000 we have been rebuilding and I’m tired of it.

  15. Fasano is a loser. He’s good for a couple good games a year and then he dissappears with the rest of the offense. I’ll be a happy when the next coach comes in and cuts him. The two year deal he signed is almost as “sick” as the one Sporano himself got after he should have been fired. Fasano should be looking at film instead of wasting his time bad mouthing the fans that pay top dollar to see a team that has won one home game in the last 15+ games.

By Eric on Oct 26, 2011

  16. First of all, I wish you could fire owners. What Ross did is treason. Just to make money. Im all about honoring the gators, but why not when Tebow was playing for them? Not when he is the opposing teams QB. Thats unforgiveable. You made a mockery of the Dolphins franchise, and you have been since you became the owner. That is disgusting over everything else. You have no pride in the team you own. It shows all the way down through to the players.

Second, We need a new coaching staff. Period. A fresh start with no ones leftovers. All of them need to go. End of story.

Third, the players need to get their act together. They are our only hope, they are the ones in the field every week. I have hope of at least 1 win this season. Cmon boys. There are loyal fans still. 🙂

And lastly, the “suck for luck fans”. You are pitiful, disgusting, unloyal, bandwagon riding

By Amanda on Oct 27, 2011

  17. (cont) sorry excuse for fans. If you are a fan, you suffer through every loss proudly, and bask in every win gracefully, as you have rooted for your team through the good and the bad. At least the Bills fans have pride in their team. Jump on the Patriots band wagon, there always accepting. I have been a fan since I found out what football was when ly Uncle proudly sat me down to tell me about the man who beat all the records, was an unbelieveable leader and gave hope to people in the locker room, out on the stands, and all across the nation. I am 24 years old. That moment was 20 years ago.

  18. If you are a true fan of the Dolphins and they are having a bad season–then deal with it like all of the other teams fans do!! Have a little class and stop being obnoxious and stop blaming individuals every week–this is a team sport!! I have taught my children never to give up. With all of these negative blogs what kind of “Fan” and role model are you to your family and friends?? If you can abandon ship when the going gets tough in this situation I hate to see what you do in your personal lives !!! I never read these blogs for the reason they always infuriate me as it did today. This will probably be the only time I ever respond–I consider this a waste of my time to deal with people who show no commitment, dedication or passion to anything they “say” they value in life!!
Last but not least—-Thank you to all the sincere & dedicated Dolphin Fans!!

  19. “It’s sick” actually how the Dolphins SUCK.
“It’s sick” how DOLPHANS have to revert to rooting for those losers to actually lose since Fasano & Co. are sooooo great at.
“It’s sick” that loser, talked that crap on the jets’s radio station.

Luck IS NOT THE ANSWER but a PIECE of the Answer.

By Dolphono on Oct 27, 2011

  20. (cont)why suffer? When you can cheer these losers for doing the best their sorry a$$es can do.

I cheer every blown 15-0 lead, every INT, every 3 & out, every field goal instead of a touch down, every fumble and EVERY HOME LOSS.

I’m having a GREAT season and money well spent on these predictable LOSERS. I enjoy jets’s fans calling me a loser every Monday at the water cooler. You should see how upset jet fans get when I clap and yell ‘SUCK4LUCK BABY!!! They shake their heads because their ribbing doesn’t piss me off. HAHAHAHA!!!!

When we land LUCK, the losing and abuse will have paid off.

  21. @ Wendy Fasano, thank you ma’am for chiming in.
I’m a die hard fan since the Marino era, I’ll be a die hard when your son take more money and leave the Dolphins. I’ll always be loyal to my BELOVED TEAM. I cheer the 2010 losing Dolphin unit for what they are LOSERS. The only season in my Dolphandom life, I have EVER cheered the inevitable(LOSING. Most seasons I’m delusional and hopeful, NOT THIS SEASON, there’s a very, very talented QB coming out and I’m hopeful we’ll lose enough games to acquire the young lad, maybe he’ll help your son become an elite TE and he’ll get that fat contract from another team that he may be dreaming of.

To all my fellow DIEHARDS enjoy the losing season this year and let’s get OUR QUARTERBACK.

    – SUCK4LUCK!!!

By Dolphono on Oct 27, 2011

  22. Marino was picked 27th and the sixth QB in the 83 Draft. First is not always the best in the draft. Come on Dolphano, be a true fan. Let’s get the support staff for a new-be QB. A new coaching staff is what we need. The players need to lead to water and taught to drink. Just getting them there is not enough.
I agree with the issue of e OC being from such a great championship team was possibly the wrong move. Come on Dolphins WIN FOR THE FANS!!!

like yours. It’s beautiful worth enough for me.
Personally, if all website owners and bloggers made good content as you probably did, the web will be much more helpful than
    ever before.
