John Fox on Brady Quinn’s comments regarding Tim Tebow: “They have great respect for one another. I know their relationship to be great.”

February 24, 2012 – 8:00 am by Steven Cuce

It wouldn’t be typical day in the life of John Fox without a Tim Tebow story. This week GQ Magazine released a piece written by Mike Silver of Yahoo! Sports, chronicling the reaction to Tebow’s rise to prominence in the NFL this season. The most eye opening quotes coming from former Broncos quarterback, Brady Quinn, essentially minimizing Tebow’s efforts and saying No.15 isn’t as humble as people think.

Since the release of the article all Quinn has done is denied the quotes written and said he was quoted out of context before the season even ended. If you haven’t gotten a chance to read the piece, check it out to just see the league wide reaction to Tebow all season. Here is Fox’s reaction to the relationship between Tebow and Quinn.

John Fox joined KKFN in Denver with Evans and Klatt to discuss where the combine fits in towards an evaluation of a college prospect, evaluating the quarterback position at the combine, the skills that Tim Tebow needs to improve on and not being caught off guard by Brady Quinn’s comments that appeared in GQ Magazine about Tim Tebow.

Where does the combine fit as you do your evaluation of a player?

“It’s all part of the process. It’s not like any one conversation, one 40-yard dash or any kind of psychological test. It’s just gathering information that’s a huge investment that the NFL makes that each individual statistic is going to make. We just have to do all the research we can and there’s a great place to have it all done in one spot with about 350 soon to be NFL players.

You said the Denver Broncos are looking for two more quarterbacks next season. What do you look for in a quarterback at the combine?

“Well we look at a lot of college tape. We spent the whole week last week going through readings and basically read a draft board that we have set up and the rankings and the grades and then watch a short clip of about 30 plays, really every player that’s here some and that won’t be here. We are just getting into the process now and you are right the quarterback is one of the tougher positions to evaluate, but that’s why we get paid the big bucks.”

Where are the areas where you would like to see Tim Tebow improve by the time next camp rolls around?

“Well I think at the end of the day Tim did a tremendous job and was a big reason why we were able to turn this season around and that poor start and I thought he made great strides as a quarterback in the National Football League and I believe he will continue to do that. Like any young player the more you do it the better you get and I see Tim with a work ethic and all the intangibles you are talking about that I have seen to do that.”

Were you caught off guard and what is your reaction to the Brady Quinn comments that appeared in GQ Magazine about Tim Tebow?

“Well, having done many interviews myself some times being on the wrong side as well I understand. The thing that I have the advantage of I see their relationship and I know they have great respect for one another as far as teammates. Sometimes things get lost in translation, but to be able to watch that every day I know their relationship to be great.
