Brian Orakpo on NFL Uniform Changes: “There are some alternate uniforms that a lot of teams have not revealed yet.”

April 4, 2012 – 8:30 am by Steven Cuce

Out with the old and in with the new for the NFL’s uniforms.  Well, sort of. The official retail supplier of NFL jerseys is now Nike, who is back from their prolonged decade-long hiatus, unveiled the changes on Tuesday in New York City. There wasn’t much dramatic change for most teams’ uniforms, but that’s not the case for  the Seattle Seahawks and Carolina PanthersHere’s a gallery of the new Nike NFL uniforms here.

Brian Orakpo had a chance to model the Washington Redskins new uniforms this week in New York city. The Redskins linebacker is a big fan of the material made in the Nike jerseys and can’t wait to see the new alternate look for Washington.

Brian Orakpo joined ESPN 980 in DC with The Sports Fix to discuss modeling the new Nike uniforms for the Washington Redskins, the changes in the new NFL Nike uniforms, whether his teammates liking the new look, the Washington Redskins being rumored to have a new alternate uniform and his guess of the color of the Redskins new alternate uniform.

Did you model the new Nike uniforms for the Washington Redskins in New York today or was it done somewhere else and a video was shown?

“No. We were actually doing it on site at New York. It is kind of like a big fashion show representing the uniforms. I was representing the Redskins and all 32 teams were out here and it looked great. The uniforms are looking good and everybody loves them to death and it’s going to look great once we open the season with them.”

The Redskins uniforms really don’t look any different than the ones from last year. Am I right or wrong?

“No you are right about that. This was basically the generic look as far as the traditional white pants and red jersey, but you see the gloves are different, but there are some alternate uniforms that a lot of teams have that you are going to see later on, but they have not revealed those yet. The new technology on the jerseys and the pants is different and everything is a lot different, but the look is pretty much the same for a lot of teams.”

Did you like the new uniforms? Do you think your teammates will like the new uniforms remaining the same?

“Oh yeah I love them because I am Nike guy anyway. I was Nike in college for so many years and once you got to Reebok it’s obviously got different material and stuff. It’s funny in halftime you see us adjust and guys with scissors cutting all types of stuff, but this time around I really feel like guys can just go out there and play and not have to worry about adjusting uniforms and stuff like that, but as far as the look? It’s a slicker look. It’s similar, but more of a slicker look, but it is what it is.”

When you say alternate uniforms for the Redskins do you mean the gold pants or is it something new?

“It’s something else they are working on right now. They won’t even let me see exactly what they are working on right now. Maybe I will get a glimpse of it because we are still working the show right now, but I haven’t really seen it, but they told me we were one of the teams that really wanted to take this to another level and get a great alternate uniform going. As you can see I think Seattle…that’s why it’s so funny…we all just jealous at Seattle because Seattle they took it to the level and just got everything done differently, so you know I’m kind of excited to see what the new alternate that we have is going to look like.”

Do you have a guess at what the new alternate uniform is going to look like?

“I don’t have a guess. I don’t want to sit here and say something and it’s something different, so I’ll just have to find out later.”
