Aldon Smith And The 49ers Defense Looks To Bring Pressure To Jason Campbell And The Bears Offense

November 19, 2012 – 6:00 am by Steven Cuce

The top game of Week 11 in the NFL is the Chicago Bears going on the road to face the San Francisco 49ers in a key NFC showdown. The story heading into this game is quite different than what most fans and media would have expected a few weeks ago. The game could be the battle of the backup quarterbacks. Both Jay Cutler and Alex Smith suffered concussions last week with Cutler already being ruled out for Monday night’s game. Smith’s status is currently up in the air, but signs point to him starting.

Regardless of who’s playing quarterback for the Bears on Monday, 49ers defensive end Aldon Smith knows it doesn’t matter. San Francisco is looking to avenge last week’s ugly tie against the St.Louis Rams and it may be perfect timing against Jason Campbell and the Bears offense.

Aldon Smith joined KHTK in Sacramento with Grant Napear to discuss his excitement heading into Monday Night football against the Chicago Bears, preparing for the Bears not knowing who the quarterback will be, Jim Harbaugh leaving practice for a procedure on his heart, the 49ers playing playoff type football in November and the 49ers defense shoring up their run stopping ability.

Talk about the excitement heading into a Monday Night football game?

“No definitely. Just really excited to get back on the field. Especially it being a Monday Night game and I am really excited about that. Last Monday Night game at Candlestick Park was a nice game. I am looking forward to it.”

Talk about preparing for a team when you don’t know who the quarterback is going to be? Does it make a difference whether it is Jay Cutler or Jason Campbell?

“You just know certain quarterbacks have different abilities in the pocket where they can scramble and things like that. You just plan on getting pressure on whoever it is and making his throws hard.”

Talk about Jim Harbaugh leaving practice. How is he doing physically?

“I know he is doing well. Definitely surprised by what happened, but he was at our practice for a little bit. He’s doing well.”

Do you feel now in November it’s time to step up and start playing playoff type football?

“I think we know we gotta be consistent with our play. We gotta play at a high level and we are aware of what we need to do and we still have a lot more games left. We’re excited about the rest of the season and just ready to get back on the field and play.”

Do you guys feel you need to shore up the run defense after what Steven Jackson and the Rams did to you last Sunday?

“I think you can say it’s the NFL and that happens, but we’re a defense that takes pride in our run stopping ability and we are working hard on it and just gonna keep improving on everything every time we can.”
