Larry Fitzgerald Won’t Throw His Quarterbacks Under The Bus, Preaches Cards Must Keep Fighting

November 20, 2012 – 7:30 am by Steven Cuce

Remember when the Arizona Cardinals started the season at 4-0? Oh how times have changed out in the desert. The NFL season is a marathon and not a sprint. Arizona lost their sixth straight game this past Sunday against the Falcons. This was a game in which the Cardinals defense forced six turnovers, but the offense never got going under John Skelton before he was pulled for Ryan Lindley.

The quarterback position for the Cards has been nothing short of a complete disaster since Kurt Warner retired. Larry Fitzgerald is a top three wide receiver in the NFL and is having his career robbed in front of him without a legitimate signal caller.

Larry Fitzgerald joined Dial Global Network with Jim Gray to discuss the Arizona Cardinals inconsistencies at the quarterback position, the Arizona Cardinals continuing to fight despite losing six straight games and his own mistakes made in the loss against the Atlanta Falcons this past week.

Six straight losses for the Arizona Cardinals. Ryan Lindley replaced John Skelton during the game. What is going on at the quarterback position?

“Well Kevin Kolb was lost early on in the season due to injury. At that point when he went down we were a 4-0 team. It’s been an adjustment thus far, but we played well enough to win yesterday, but unfortunately we fell a little short and our defense had been in the game and causing turnovers. They played lights out football and well enough for us to win, but offensively we just didn’t get it done.”

What do you do now with the season at this point?

“We keep fighting. You never tuck your tail and run. We are dealing with some adversity, but the true test of a man is when you deal with adversity in our game and in our profession cause nobody cares what your record is or what you have done the week before. We play against the St.Louis Rams at home, the team that beat us for the first time this year, so we have a lot to play for. We have a lot to play for.”

John Skelton missed you wide open in the end zone. How frustrated are you about the Cardinals starting quarterback situation?

“I’m far from flawless. I make my mistakes week in and week out. I have to make sure I am doing everything I can to be the player I know that I am capable of being and yesterday wasn’t my best performance. I had the opportunity on 4th and 2 to make the play that I had made before in the past and I didn’t make it. That wasn’t the youngster’s fault. That was my fault. I take responsibility for that, but as a leader and as a captain I have to always go out there with an optimistic mindset when we can go out there and accomplish our goals and that’s making the playoffs and I am not going to stray from that.”

  2. Fitz is definitely a class act. I’m a 49er fan and it sucks to see such a great player rott on a crappy team as the Cardinals. He’s wasting his future being there. They need to ship him off to a contending team, Fitz deserves better. He’s a Hall of Famer for sure!

  3. I totally agree with Oakpark21. When I first saw this young man play during their run to the Super Bowl, I was amazed at some of the catches he made. I wish Arizona would trade him to a good team that has a chance. I think I read somewhere that Bill Bidwell is a tightwad, not unlike the late Hugh Culverhouse, so therin lies your QB problem. Oh, if we just had some Eddie deBartolo Jr.s around now.

  4. Larry is a class act for sure. Heck if anyone deserves to be driving that bus it’s him. I hope the cards “free fitz” and they could get some draft
Picks to shore up their o line.
