Ryan Tannehill is Going to Miss Jake Long, But is Impressed by Mike Wallace’s Speed in Workouts

April 22, 2013 – 5:45 am by Steven Cuce

The Miami Dolphins entered free agency with more than $40 million of cap room and went shopping with it by signing Mike Wallace, Dannell Ellerbe, Dustin Keller and Philip Wheeler.

The Dolphins appear to be a true playoff contender for the wild card at least. Quarterback Ryan Tannehill is excited about the new weapons around him.

Ryan Tannehill joined 790 The Ticket in Miami with Dan LeBatard and Stugotz to discuss quarterbacks being politically correct with the media, the Miami Dolphins’ draft plans, Jake Long signing with the Rams and working out with Mike Wallace.

Do you feel like quarterbacks can’t be themselves with the media?

“To a certain extent, you always have to be political. That’s just part of the world we live in today with how everything is analyzed. Everyone has their own opinion, and anything you say is going to get tossed around one way or the other. You definitely have to watch what you say. “

Do you want the Dolphins to draft a tackle?

“I really don’t know what’s going to happen in the draft. I’m excited to see what happens. We have a lot of firepower in the draft with all the picks we have acquired, so I’m excited to see the pieces we add to the puzzle for any position.”

How did you handle the Jake Long departure? Were you surprised he left? Did you call him to come back?

“I was in communication with him, but not in regards to that. Every man has to do the best thing for him. I grew to like him and become friends with him last year and loved playing with him. I would have liked to see him come back, but I stayed out of it from that aspect and wished him all the best in the future.”

Have you had a chance to work out with Mike Wallace?

“Yeah, we’ve thrown, and I’m excited from what I’ve seen so far. I think he is what everyone says he is coming in. He’s a fast guy who can really stretch the field, and the first day we were starting off half speed and he ran a route and I said, ‘Hey man, just take it down a notch; we’re going half speed.’ He said, ‘I am going half speed.’ I was like OK.”
