By Michael Vick On His Interceptions: “Sometimes You Just Try So Hard…it’s All in Good Faith”

Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Michael Vick’s been hit a lot early this season, but that’s nothing new. What is new is a team turning the ball over nine times in two games and being 2-0 despite only outscoring their opponents by a grand total of two points.
Michael Vick joined Mike Missanelli on 97.5 The Fanatic in Philadelphia to discuss life and football, where he’s at right now personally, his job security and his habit of throwing too many interceptions by trying to make something out of nothing.
On attending a charity event for underprivileged children and if that’s easier to do after a win:
“Even if things didn’t go the way we wanted them to go, I still would have done this event. Life is not all about football, and football is not my life.”
On where he’s at in life right now:
“I’m in a great place in my life. I’m just thankful. I’m thankful to wake up and have breakfast each and every morning. I’m thankful for all the great things that God has restored in my life that was taken away, and I never took that for granted. I’ve been to a point in my life where I was on top and I fell and didn’t have anything — not one dime in my pocket — and was able to regain things that I worked hard for and dreamed about. And now it takes a turn where I have an opportunity to lead a great football team, hopefully to a championship. And I can’t ask for too much more in my life. If my career was over tomorrow, I can say that I honestly had a great one.”
On if he fears for his job and fears he could be replaced if the team doesn’t succeed in the very near future:
“I don’t think about it. If it’s gonna happen that way, it’s gonna happen that way. I’d much rather understand and control what I can control. If all the pressure and the burden is placed on me to get it done, then that’s what it is. That’s the situation that’s being created. But I don’t worry about that. I know I’m one of the best quarterbacks in the game. I know what I can do when I step on the field, and I know how I can help a football team, so I think my confidence is what’s most important.”
On how difficult it is to stop trying to make plays happen where they don’t exist, which happened against Cleveland:
“It’s not difficult, because I went the rest of the game and I didn’t do it. We had another interception but it was off a tip — it wasn’t just me throwing the ball, trying to do too much. Interceptions are bad but the thing is, I know why I throw my interceptions. It’s not like I’m throwing the ball blind to the left corner of the field — I did it once against Cleveland, I’ll be honest, because I’m a realist and I tell it like it is. But sometimes you just try so hard, it’s all in good faith. It’s all for the right reasons.”
On if he has that voice in his head that says no:
“No. I wish I did. I wish I had Coach Reid in my headset who could talk to me throughout the whole play.”
