Dez Bryant: “My dream has just always been to play in the NFL and to play for the Dallas Cowboys.”After being ruled ineligible by the NCAA and sitting out the last ten games of his junior season, Oklahoma State WR Dez Bryant will return to the football field this fall in a Dallas Cowboys uniform.  The Cowboys moved up in the draft to the twenty-fourth pick and selected Bryant to play alongside Miles Austin and Roy Williams.  Cowboys owner, Jerry Jones, has repeatedly kicked himself in the rear after passing up on Randy Moss in the ’98 draft, so he didn’t want to do Heading into that draft, Moss had spent time in jail after a high school fight and tested positive for marijuana.

Much like Moss, Bryant was regarded as top-ten talent and was personally attacked with his off-the-field behavior before the draft and his stock plummeted resulting in a late first round pick.   With his explosive playmaking speed and size, Jones has anointed Bryant as the next-coming of Michael Irvin.  He has been given the number eighty-eight, previously worn by Irvin, so he has a lot to live up to.  I guess it kind of makes sense because he is the only receiver the Cowboys have drafted in the first round since Irvin was drafted out of Miami twenty-two years ago.Dez Bryant joined 790 The Zone in Atlanta to talk about how he was feeling prior to getting drafted by the Cowboys, how much he was wishing for the Cowboys to draft him, and whether he thinks Deion Sanders had any influence on the Cowboys decision to draft him.

On how he was feeling prior to getting drafted by the Cowboys:

“To be honest I already had a feeling that my stock may drop but I didn’t really too much care about that.  My dream has just always been to play in the NFL and to play for the Dallas Cowboys.  Now that the Cowboys moved up and they drafted me you know it is just exciting and the feeling was just unreal.  Just to hear Jerry Jones say that ‘Are you ready to be a Cowboy?’  I just broke down in tears and that was just an amazing feeling.”

How much he was wishing for the Cowboys to draft him:

“I was wishing, I was doing a lot of hoping and a lot of praying and it is just unreal.  That is how you know God is real because I prayed for this and it came true and I am still speechless.”
Whether he thinks Deion Sanders had any influence on the Cowboys decision to draft him:
“I don’t know if Deion called him.  I doubt if he did but I think Jerry knew from whenever we met with each other that I was a great guy, you know I am a great person.  All of the media, they were just ripping me up and a lot of it was just lies and I think Jerry just look right past that.”

How much more he worked because all of the negative publicity about him:

“It made me work harder.  It turned an exciting moment into a serious moment.  Through the whole process, through the draft you are supposed to be excited but through the whole process I was just like, man I just got to work.  I got to work.  As soon as I get back onto the field I am going to show the whole world that I am not a bad person and to show them that I do everything right and just be successful.”
