Felix Jones Says Beating the Rival New York Giants to Secure Playoff Berth “Would definitely make it more sweet.”
The Dallas Cowboys are one of the most difficult teams to figure out in the NFL. Despite having a ton of talent and having one of the more explosive offenses in the league, the Cowboys have had some head-scratchers again this year. Because of missed opportunities earlier this season, Dallas is once again fighting for a playoff spot on the last week of the season. As frustrating as they have been this year and as many last game blunders as they have put their fans through, the Cowboys goal to win the NFC East is still right there within their grasp.
The season comes down to one game. Are these the same old Cowboys? Is this going to be another disappointing season in Big D? Is this another squandered opportunity? Or is this group a different bunch that fights through adversity and comes through in the clutch with the season on the line? Those questions will be cleared up Sunday night in New York when the Cowboys take on the Giants. Before then, let’s hear from one of their more explosive and dynamic playmakers on either side of the ball, the oft-injured Felix Jones, who’s apparently feeling good and ready to play in Week 17.
Felix Jones joined WFAN in New York with Marc Malusis to talk about how frustrating the year has been for him given all the injuries he’s been sidelined with, how Tony Romo looks in practice this week after injuring his hand in Week 16, whether or not he feels the team has learned from the earlier mistakes, what the key is to beat the Giants, how disappointing last week’s loss was, and if there is a little extra motivation given the fact that getting into the playoffs also means beating the Giants.
How tough the year has been with him given all the injuries:
“Man it’s tough in this league. It’s tough to be an NFL football player. The injuries and you definitely want to be out there with your team. You just gotta overcome those obstacles, keep working hard, keep fighting and definitely get back to where you were.”
How Tony Romo looks in practice:
“The guy always looks good. Just excited for him and can’t wait to get out there Sunday and play our game.”
Whether or not he feels the team has learned from the earlier mistakes:
“Definitely. We’ve had some games that were pretty tough and we just have to keep learning from those, keep pushing on, and it definitely set us up and put us in the right position to keep going and make this playoff run. We just have to focus on every day, getting better, and focus on the opponent and go out there, execute and do what we know how to do, play Cowboy football.”
What the keys are to beating the Giants:
“Definitely we need to be on the same page. Everybody, all 11 guys on the same page. That’s how we need to do it. I think we can definitely make a difference and pull this game out.”
How tough it was to lose last week’s game against the Eagles:
“Definitely. We always have to keep our heads up and focus on the next opponent. Last week was last week and we’re definitely looking forward to the Giants. We’ve learned from our losses and everything we can take from that game and use it to better ourselves and our team for the next opponent.”
Whether or not the ability to beat the Giants to get to the playoffs adds on to the motivation Sunday night:
“Definitely. It’s always a great game, the Giants-Cowboys. The Giants beat us and to go into someone’s backyard and win the ball game would definitely make it more sweet. And with the added bonus of a division championship on the line it just makes it even better.”
On Tony Romo:
“Man that guy every day, he’s focused on one point of his game and he works on it. He gets better by the end of the day. That’s just something that we see in our leader and our quarterback and definitely rubbed off on the team. He’s a great leader, great guy, great role model, great football player, and definitely happy for him to be on our side.”
