Kellen Moore may have the record for the most wins ever for a college quarterback at the Division I level, but the Broncos signal caller is coming off a heartbreaking loss to the TCU Horned Frogs last Saturday. The 36-35 defeat essentially put an end to Moore’s last chance at ever being in a BCS Championship game. It’s painful to think that Moore has seen his teams’ BCS Championship hopes go down the tubes with his kickers missing makeable field goals in back-to-back seasons now. Last season, Kyle Brotzman missed two field goals and Boise State fell on the road to Nevada. Last Saturday, Dan Goodale’s missed a 39-yard kick that ruined the Broncos chance at achieving perfection.
It’s been a remarkable run for Moore since his career began in Boise State. He had the attention of the college football world and almost got his underdog team a chance at BCS glory. Kellen Moore joined The Dan Patrick Show to discuss his feelings after the tough loss to TCU on Saturday evening, what, if anything, he takes from the loss to TCU outside of the Broncos’ BCS hopes being dashed, the chances of Boise State making the BCS Championship had the Broncos not lost to TCU, passing Colt McCoy for the most wins all-time as a college quarterback, his vote for the Heisman Trophy, what Andrew Luck does better than him, his future plans after college and possibly playing in the NFL.
How do you feel today coming off the loss?
“Not too bad. We are doing alright.”
Obviously there is the kick that was missed at the end of the game against TCU, but what else do you take from that game? Anything positive you take away from that game?
“Yeah I think certainly there is a lot of positives. I don’t think we concern ourselves too much with the kick and the other things. I think you kind of look back at your own personal performance or situations and see what you could have done better earlier in the game to make it so it didn’t come down to that.”
Do you feel if you guys would have ran the table you would have been worthy to be in the BCS Championship game?
“[Laughs] Oh man Dan you are putting me on the spot here. [Dan Patrick: Well the season is already shot. You got a bowl game coming up. You don’t owe the BCS anything?] Hey I mean we’ll see how the season ends. That’s a different conversation at the end of the year, but I think we got all the talent in the world on our team. I think we are still capable of some good things. One loss is one loss. If we can finish this thing off right and not too many teams can say they had one loss in a season.”
How proud are you to pass Colt McCoy for the most all-time wins as a college quarterback? What does that mean?
“I think it means you are very fortunate to play for four years and play on a highly successful team. It’s pretty neat. Any time your name is around Colt McCoy you know something is going right.”
Who gets your Heisman Trophy vote?
“I think still Andrew Luck. Andrew has played well. He has carried that team. They got more games to play and they’ll play in a big bowl game and have a great opportunity.”
What does Andrew Luck do better than you?
“I think he’s got a lot of tools. He does a great job managing that offense. Even with the run game he’s so involved with it. He’s checking and alerting plays. I think he does a great job. He’s fun to watch.”
What do you think your future is?
“I think certainly try to see if you can play a little longer. Enjoy that. Down the road maybe getting into coaching or something.”
Do you plan on playing in the NFL?
“Certainly. You gotta give it a shot. I think I am capable of it. I think I can do some things, but we’ll see down the road what happens.”
