By Shonn Greene Hopes To Shoulder More Of The Workload After Sunday’s Big Game

The New York Jets had high hopes for Shonn Greene when they drafted him in 2009, but Greene has been plagued by inconsistency and a general lack of production for much his career. That changed, at least for one day Sunday, with Greene posting 161 yards on 32 carries in an impressive victory over the Indianapolis Colts.
Shonn Greene joined The Michael Kay Show on ESPN Radio New York to discuss his big performance in Sunday’s win over Indianapolis, his confidence in the running game, next week’s game with the Patriots, his workload with injuries hitting the offensive backfield, and the loss of Darrelle Revis and Santonio Holmes.
On finally breaking out in a big offensive performance against the Colts:
“We needed a win like that, especially putting a lot of points on the board, and finally getting the run game going. Because we’ve been working hard all week in practice, every week, so it pays dividends to finally see it pay off.”
On if he was losing confidence in the running game after a slow start:
“No, not at all. We had a similar spell like this last year. We kind of were slow getting the running game going, and I know all we had to do is keep working hard at it and everybody did that. The offensive line did a great job, as they always do. We just gotta make plays like that and continue to execute.”
On if they have to do more to have success next week against New England:
“I think we gotta do that, and a little bit more. New England’s a great football team and they’re kind of good defensively. We just gotta execute and do what we do and just try to play mistake-free football, which is hard but we just can’t turn the ball over.”
On if he’s ready to carry the ball 30-plus times with the Bilal Powell and Joe McKnight both dealing with injuries:
“Yes, sir. That’s what they have me here for. Whatever way I can help the team out, that’s what I’m going to do.”
On if they’re over the shock of losing Darrelle Revis and Santonio Holmes in a short time span:
“I think we are. We’re right there. We know we can’t get [Revis] back, so we know we just gotta keep it moving. He was a great player for us, as was Santonio Holmes, but it’s next guy up and we’ve still gotta play these games. So some people will just have to step up.”
