If it weren’t for Adrian Peterson’s superhero-speed recovery from knee surgery, Toby Gerhart would be in line to start early this season for the Minnesota Vikings. Instead, it looks like Gerhart will have to wait. Still, as Peterson gets eased back, the third-year back will be relied upon even more in. If his 4.9-yard-per-carry average in is any indication of what’s to come, he’ll be alright. Toby Gerhart joined Chris & Ben on XTRA Sports Radio in San Diego to discuss Adrian Peterson’s quick recovery from knee surgery and his progress in his second season. But before that, the California boy delivered a funny anecdote regarding his first encounter with Minnesota snow.
On getting stuck in the snow with Adrian Peterson’s car his first winter in Minnesota:
“I didn’t have a car up here just yet and so I was borrowing one of Adrian’s cars. It was this little sports car. And I didn’t even realize it snowed until I opened the garage, and I was like, ‘Oh no, I’m in trouble.’ I decided I didn’t want to drive. I tried to call a couple guys — nobody answered. And I was a rookie, I was scared to be late to meetings so I was like, ‘All right, I gotta just try to go for it.’ And I was slipping and sliding the whole way and couldn’t make it up the last little hill into the facility.”
On how many cars Adrian Peterson owns:
“I have no idea. I just remember asking, ‘Do you have any extra cars?’ And he was like, ‘Yeah, I got a few over here, I can bring one for you.’”
On Adrian Peterson’s fast recovery from knee surgery:
“He truly is a freak, physically, in terms of how quick and strong he is. And that’s just how fast he recovered. And he’s out there running around, looks great. And he has his mind set on making it back for Game 1.”
On feeling more comfortable in his second season:
“I felt a lot more comfortable, much more confident and relaxed.”
