Andy Reid Hopes Michael Vick Catches Some Breaks with the Injury
Philadelphia Eagles owner Jeffrey Lurie has made it clear that this is a now-or-never year for Andy Reid and his Philadelphia Eagles, and Reid seems to understand that. Yet he knows how crucial Michael Vick is to the team’s success, and Reid notes that Vick’s ability to stay healthy has a lot to do with dumb luck.Andy Reid joined Angelo Cataldi on WIP in Philadelphia to discuss the support he received from fans after the death of his son at training camp, the pressure being applied by owner Jeff Lurie and Michael Vick’s ability to stay healthy.
On the city’s support when he lost his son this summer:
“The outpouring was incredible. It touched our hearts as a family and it was unbelievable.”
On owner Jeffrey Lurie saying he’d have to do better than 8-8 to save his job:
“I’m right with him. We’re shooting for better than 8-8 and s0 that’s our goal. Our goal is to win championships. That’s what we’re striving for and that’s why we work hard and spend the time doing it. So I’m on board. I understand. I understand the business, I’ve got a great relationship with Jeff Lurie, and so I don’t worry about that. I worry about the things that we can control and that’s getting better as a football team every day and trying to get ourselves better.”
On if he’s confident Michael Vick can stay healthy:
“I don’t really worry about that. I want him to just go play and be himself. And there’s a time and a place where he knows he’s gotta get down or out of bounds, but other than that you go play. That’s what’s made you great — you play a certain way and you go for it. And this game, I think if you asked any player they’re going to tell you they gotta catch a couple breaks here and there with the injury bug. And so hopefully this is his year where he does that.”
