Osi Umenyiora On Playing For Giants Next Year: “It was a great run. Now is probably time to move on.”

Osi Umenyiora appears to be bracing for life without the New York Giants. The defensive end has played his entire 10-year career with the G-Men. He wants to start at defensive end and not play just on passing downs. He may not have that opportunity with the Giants any longer as he enters free agency.
No.72 started in just four games this season and totaled 43 tackles, six sacks and two forced fumbles in 16 games.

Osi Umenyiora joined ESPN Radio New York with The Michael Kay Show to discuss the New York Giants not making the playoffs, what went wrong for the Giants this season, his future with the Giants next year, the prospect of leaving the Giants next year and now being the right time to leave the Giants.
Can you believe the Giant didn’t make the playoffs?
“Yeah cause obviously we’re not in the playoffs. We would like to be playing, but  we didn’t do things the way we were supposed to and now we are going to sit home and watch.”
What went wrong for the Giants?
“I really don’t know to be honest with you. I think in the next couple of months we have to evaluate that and we’ll let the coaches do that and I am quite sure they will figure that out.”
What does your gut tell you? Is that your last game as a Giant?
“I don’t know. I would think so, but you never really know what is going to happen. If it is, it is. If it’s not, it’s not.  I really couldn’t tell you.”
Is it a tough thing to consider not being on the Giants next year?
“No. No. Not at all. It’s part of life. It’s change. I just feel fortunate to have been able to play ten years in New York and in this city and for that organization and it was a great run and a great ride. I think now is probably time to move on.”
Why is this the right time to go?
“There’s really not much left for me to accomplish here in New York. If you look at what I’ve done here , what is there left to be done here?  We won a championship here twice. I think I have been a Pro Bowl player and everything has pretty much gone better than I could have ever imagined here in New York, so if there is a time to leave I think it would be now. There’s really no telling what could happen like I said before.”
