Al Horford Is Already Keeping an Eye on the Standings

It is a really good time to be an Atlanta Hawk. Atlanta is 9-4 on the young season, they are currently riding a six game winning streak and they have taken advantage of a pretty easy schedule to start the season. It’s been even better for Al Horford. After an injury-riddled season last year, Horford has returned with a vengeance to start this season. Horford is averaging 16 points per game to go with 9.3 boards. Not to mention Horford was recently named Eastern Conference Player of the Week. How good the Hawks are will be something that will be answered after a little bit of time and it’s tough to consider Atlanta a title contender but with Al Horford healthy, the Hawks are a different team and he’s shown his value to start this season. Al Horford joined WCNN in Atlanta with Chuck and Chernoff to talk about the double-digit win over the Los Angeles Clippers the other night, whether he thinks the Hawks have been lost in the shuffle given the Atlanta Falcons are so good and the SEC Championship is right around the corner, on getting to play so many games at home early this season and if he keeps track of the standings this early in the season.

On the double-digit win over the Los Angeles Clippers the other night:

“Yeah no question. I think when we played them, we, ourselves, played as good as we have all year. Really came out and took them out of what they wanted to do offensively and made it an up and down game kind of to our favor. It was great. They beat us over there so we had that on our minds and we wanted to get this win from them.”

Championship is right around the corner:

“I’m with the people. I’m excited. First of all the Falcons are having a great year and I love to watch SEC football so I’m intrigued with what is going on and everything and we know and we understand it’s early in the year of a long season for us. I think we are getting some acknowledgement from people but it’s not going to be all about us. There’s a lot of other things going on here and I think our fans appreciate us. I know this time of year it’s really about football.”

How much it helps for a new group of players to play so many games at home to start the season:

“No question about it. We have to take advantage of all these games and playing at home is an advantage for us. We need to make sure we take care of our home and once we go on the road we will figure that part out, but we need to win these games here at home.”

Whether he keeps tabs on the standings early in the season:

“Yeah I keep up with it. I’m always looking at them and stuff it’s early in the year but I’m always a big guy in looking at the Eastern and Western Conference.”
