Are the Buccaneers a Playoff Team? Josh Freeman Thinks So

Two years ago there were three quarterbacks taken in the first round of the NFL Draft. Two of them (Matthew Stafford and Mark Sanchez) went in the first five picks. Josh Freeman was the third quarterback taken and looks like he is just as good, if not better than the two guys that went in front of him. Freeman took his lumps on a bad team last year, but showed plenty of flashes that made the Bucs believe that they might have finally found their quarterback of the future. In his second NFL season, Freeman has taken his game to another level and has avoided mistakes. Despite playing in a very tough division, playing on one of the youngest teams in the NFL, and having a rookie as his go-to wide receiver, Freeman has led the charge for the Bucs and he has Tampa thinking about the playoffs.Josh Freeman joined The Dan Patrick Show to talk about the Buccaneers surprising success this season, what it’s like playing for Raheem Morris, whether or not he cares about the lack of respect the Buccaneers are getting, and whether or not he thinks the Bucs are a playoff team.

On Raheem Morris’ attitude on days off:

“He’s in there running around, game planning, trying to get ready, and trying to set up a good plan to best attack the 49ers. (Host: Is he always like that?) Oh yeah. He’s always enthusiastic, always intense, and I really think the team is starting to reflect that.”

On whether or not he is surprised by the team’s success:

“I’m not really that surprised because I’m with the team, I’m with the guys, and I’m with the coaches everyday and I see the type of guys we have and obviously a lot of people are surprised because of our team last year. We feel we have a good team. We may be young, but we work hard and we want to come out and play good football and put our mark on this league.”

On Michael Vick’s performance the other night:

“That was ridiculous. He makes it so easy, he really does. (Host: Could you try and do what he does?) To an extent. Obviously he’s faster than I am and a better runner but I feel like eventually if I keep working I’ll be able to put up those types of numbers.”

On the lack of attention Tampa Bay is getting:

“We don’t care. We really don’t care. There have been a number of issues, I don’t know if you want to call them issues, but selling out games or games getting blacked out, our guys aren’t worried about it and nobody takes it to heart. We’re just out to win football games. It’s about what you put on film and going out every Sunday and being your very best self. That’s what we try to do. We try to go out, prepare hard during the week, and play good football on Sunday.”

On whether or not Tampa Bay is a playoff team:

“Yeah. It’s been our goal from the beginning of the season. Raheem said it’s a race to ten games. Obviously we lost a couple that we feel like we could’ve gone out and played better and potentially won, but at the same time, we’re still on track and feel like every one of our games left on our schedule is a winnable game. I definitely feel like we have an opportunity.”
