Bart Scott On Giants Hazing: “prince Amukamara Is Still A Rookie After Four Games. This Morning He Should Have Brought The Donuts.”

For once it appears the New York Giants are in the news for the types of reasons usually hoarded by the New York Jets, who just so happen to be tending to football issues like trying to figure out what is wrong with their offense. After the two inner city rivals faced off on Saturday in what was the second preseason game for both teams,  Giants punter Steve Weatherford posted a video of Jason Pierre-Paul throwing Prince Amukamara into a pool full of ice water. This prank video has been a huge topic of debate already after Amukamara already voiced displeasure about not being thrilled about being the subject of a hazing attack.Bart Scott has never been one to hide his feelings during his career and had no problem defending Pierre-Paul’s actions.

Bart Scott joined 98.7 ESPN New York with The Michael Kay Show (Stephen A. Smith filling in) to discuss the preseason struggles of the New York Jets offense, the Jets defense not being limited by the offense’s inability to sustain consistent success, his personal expectations for himself this season, Jason Pierre-Paul throwing Prince Amukamara into a pool full of ice water, and not being bothered by rookie hazing in the NFL.

What the hell is going on with the Jets offense?

“You are going to ask me this in front of my people and everything? I got you. It’s a work in progress. We’ll get it together. I know it hasn’t looked pretty, but it is the preseason and we’ve tightened it up and hopefully in the next couple of weeks we’ll get some of our stars back and we can tighten it up. This is a new offense. There’s going to be some growing pains with it, but best believe the defense is going to hold it down until we pick it up.”

If this offense isn’t helping the defense how does that limit you guys?

“Hey man we do it all cost. We gotta pick it up on defense. We gotta do a better job. Maybe we gotta take that pick [interception] and put it into the end zone. That’s how you do it. We’ll turn it around and I’m confident. I’m sitting here watching Santonio Holmes do his calf raises. He’s getting his mind right. He’ll be back. Jeremy Kerley. We’ll figure it out. Right now we are figuring out what we can and can’t do and we haven’t pulled everything out. We are trying to do certain things. Like I said by no means it wasn’t ugly the other day, but we understand that those days will come and we’ll figure it out.”

What are you expecting from yourself this season?

“I’m expecting career numbers. With the career low tackles also came career plays, so that kind of goes hand in hand. I had to do some things to make sure I got the opportunity to get those tackles and get those sacks. I’ve done those things and they’ve been addressed. I look forward and hope everyone is looking forward to a career year.”

Did you hear about or did you see the youtube video of Jason Pierre-Paul throwing Prince Amukamara into a pool full of ice water?

“I mean I heard about it, but come on man at the end of the day Prince Amukamara is still a rookie after four games. This morning he should have brought the donuts. Come on man.”

So in other words if Jason Pierre-Paul did that to you Bart Scott he wouldn’t have to sleep with one eye open?

“Come on he’s [Prince Amukamara] a rookie. He is going to get hazed. First of all the bigger picture is…come on too many people…Steve [Weatherford] is my boy. There’s no reason that that should ever be aired. That’s in the room, locker room stuff. Stuff that goes on within sports. Certain things other people can’t understand. You can’t try to explain it because you just sound stupid trying to explain it. What I am saying is that’s football stuff. It happens all over. We cut a B + in a dude’s head because he said he graded our defense a B+. We thought he was retarded if he thought he was performing at a B+. He should be with the 1′s. He was a rookie, so we took some clippers and we cut a B+ in his head and made him wear it.”
