Drew Brees and LaDainian Tomlinson To Be Reunited in Big Easy?

The New Orleans Saints had high expectations heading into the 2008 season. Injuries, a number of close tough losses, and a surprisingly competitive division all contributed to the Saints missing the playoffs for the second time in as many years since making a magical run to the NFC Championship game in Drew Brees’ first year QB’ing the team in ‘06. Brees of course had a monster year, threatening Dan Marino’s single season passing yardage record.  He came up just short, with 5,069 yards. If you ask him though, the individual accomplishments mean next to nothing. He wants to win and the Saints have had a hard time doing so consistently for two years running. Though it’s just a rumor at this point, word on the street is the Chargers may be considering releasing RB LaDainian Tomlinson, who had career lows last year. With tons of miles already on his odometer, the thought is that the Chargers may be better off parting ways with the expensive future Hall of Famer. If that were the case, could he be reunited with his old buddy Brees down in New Orleans? Brees talked to XX 1090 in San Diego, where he started his NFL career in 2001, about his offseason plans and the possibility of his good friend LaDainian Tomlinson might eventually end up reunited with Drew in New Orleans if he were to be released by San Diego for salary cap purposes.

Would Brees like to be reunited with his old friend and teammate LT?

“Come on, it’s an easy question. I’d love to have him in New Orleans. I’d love to be his teammate again. I think LT’s got a lot of great years left in him so we’ll see what happens.”

Does he think LT will agree to accept less money from the Chargers?

“I don’t think he should accept less money from the Chargers at this point. Because look at his track record – many people could say he had a decline this year but I disagree with that. He was banged up for the majority of the year and that’s just part of the game at times. I mean the guy has missed one start his entire NFL career. So if you’re going to sit here and tell me he’s not a durable guy then you’re crazy.”
