Dwight Howard Would Take Kevin Durant Over LeBron James

Dwight Howard apparently has some really messed up dreams. As you’ll see or hear below, he apparently has had nightmares before about being traded from the Orlando Magic to some mythical team in Cincinnati. While I’m sure the Bearcats would love for him to be eligible to play at the college level, that’s not happening. What is actually happening is the start of NBA training camp. It’s starting soon, and when prompted to decide whether he’d choose to play with LeBron James or Kevin Durant, Howard is now on the record as having said Durant.And I’m pretty sure he was awake, and not dreaming, when he said it.

Dwight Howard joined The Dan Patrick Show to discuss what’s more important: playing time or money, whether he’s had sleepless nights since the Miami Heat acquired The Big Three, former basketball nightmares, a dream about being traded to Cincinnati, whether he thinks Carmelo Anthony will be traded and his thoughts on the best players in the NBA (including picking Durant over LeBron).

On, if he was an NFL quarterback, he’d rather start and make $5 million or be the backup for $10 million:

“Well, I think it doesn’t matter how you start, it’s how you finish. If I have to come off the bench and make $10 million, I’m going to come off the bench and make $10 million and I think after a couple games, I’d probably get the starting position.” No. You’re a backup the entire year. “I’d have to go with being the starter.”

On whether he’s had sleepless nights since the Heat added LeBron James and Chris Bosh to Dwyane Wade:

“I sleep fine every night. I have great dreams and everything. I don’t have any issues with sleep thinking about the three amigos.”

On whether he’s ever had a basketball-related nightmare:

“I think I had one in my rookie year when Kobe dunked on me. I think I had a nightmare that night of him doing the same dunk over and over again.”

On whether he’s ever had a nightmare about being traded to the Clippers:

“Actually, I had one of those dreams this season. It wasn’t the Clippers, it was just some team in Cincinnati. I’m like, ‘How did they get an NBA team?’ It was so scary. I woke up and I went to the gym and I was talking to everybody like, ‘Thank you for having me on the team.’ They were like, ‘What are you talking about?’ I was like, ‘Oh, it was a dream.’ It was so real. They was like, ‘Dwight, we know you’re averaging 20 points and 13 rebounds, but we’re going a different way?’ I’m like, ‘What way do you want to go?’ They’re like, ‘Well, we’re going to trade you to the Cincinnati team. We’re looking to go younger.’ I’m like, ‘I’m only 24.’ They’re like, ‘Well, we wanna go younger.’ And they got rid of me and the nightmare was so scary.”

On whether he believes Carmelo Anthony will be traded out of Denver:

“I don’t know. I really like him in Denver. I think they have a real good team. They just made it to the conference finals the year before last. This season, they didn’t really do that good in the playoffs, but I think they’ve got a really good team. Wherever he goes, he’s going to make the team better. I’ve always been a big fan of Carmelo because of the way he plays. He plays with a lot of intensity. He’s a guy that can get you 30 points quick.”

On whether he would rather have Kevin Durant or LeBron James:

“I’m going to go with Kevin. I like Kevin. I watched him in high school and had a chance to talk to him at an NBA camp before he got drafted.” So my takeaway from this interview is you think that LeBron is overrated and Kevin Durant is better than him. “Wow. I never said that. LeBron is not overrated.”
