Ed Reed Attacks Members of the Baltimore Media Ed Reed has been one of the best safeties in the NFL pretty much from the time he came into the league and is more than likely a future Hall of Famer. The Ravens have high expectations this year and anything less than a Super Bowl will be a disappointment. Their offense looks like it will be very explosive and they still have one of the best defenses in the NFL. But if they’re going to reach their goal of getting to Dallas this year, the Ravens are going to need Ed Reed to be healthy and be the ball-hawk that has made him one of the best ever at his position. Right now Reed is recovering from offseason hip surgery and it remains to be seen when he is going to be back for the Ravens. There were some reports out there that Reed would possibly miss the first six games and he feels like those reports as well as others were taken out of context and used this interview to let the Baltimore media know exactly how he felt about their columns.Ed Reed joined ESPN 850 WKNR in Cleveland to talk about his offseason surgery, when he is expecting to come back, and vents about the media and the way they have handled his situation this offseason.
On how his rehab is going:
“It’s going pretty good. I’m actually on the rehab bike right now starting my rehab as we speak. I’m not sure how long I will be out man. I’m preparing to come back from the first game. Just take it week by week from there if I’m not back. There’s a lot of speculation, a lot of reporters in Baltimore trying to make ESPN News. They want to report stuff that’s not true and take things out of context. You get that a lot down here. They’re trying to make a name for themselves off you, but that’s neither here nor there. All I can do right now is try and get myself healthy so I can help my team win.”
On whether or not he has a timetable for when he’s going to be back:
“No, not at all. Like I said I’m preparing to come back for the first game, trying to come back but at the same time I’m not rushing it.”
On whether or not he expects to be back before the first six games of the season:
“I’m trying to get back. If I can do it I will play, but I’m not coming back and trying to play and still have pain, injure myself again, and I’m out at the end of the season and come playoff time I can’t play football no more. You’ve got to be smart about this. I have a career and hopefully I can play after this. There’s guys like Mike Preston down here who want to report stuff and he can call it whatever he wants. Ex sorry football player who didn’t make it. (Host: You sound angry) It is what it is. He has the pen in his hand and he can write anytime he wants. I could care less about the guy, but he’s just trying to make a name for himself saying what he wants to say, but he doesn’t understand the business. He’s never been in this business. He wanted to make it and he didn’t. Now he’s just sorry and writing what he wants to write. You know write the right thing.”
On whether or not the media is motivating him:
“I’m always working hard. I get paid to work hard. Those guys don’t motivate me at all. They’re really nobody. I’m sure they can tell you that I very rarely talk to them because of the things they say and do. They don’t work the right way some of them. It’s not everybody in the media, just certain people. I actually tried to contact Mike Preston this offseason to try and give him all the information, my surgery, everything, the truth of what’s going on. You take it and they do what they want to do. It’s no big deal to me. Those guys don’t motivate me ,but I will confront them and talk to them when I know they’re wrong. Just try to write, get an article, and try to make a name off of you.”
