Coach Mike Tomlin said he had ‘no holes’. Both in terms of his abilities on the football field and his character and work ethic. Evander ‘Ziggy’ Hood, the Pittsburgh Steelers 1st round draft choice out of the University of Missouri, has struck gold by being drafted by the defending Super Bowl Champs. He’ll have to patiently wait his turn behind veterans Aaron Smith, Casey Hampton and Brett Keisel, but sooner rather than later Hood should find himself contributing in some way for one of the NFL’s best defenses.
Hood joined ESPN Radio Pittsburgh on Wednesday to talk about the thrill of joining the six-time Super Bowl Champion Pittsburgh Steelers.

On how he got his nickname Ziggy:

“My grandmother gave it to me when I was little at a younger age. She couldn’t speak English so she gave me the name of the cartoon character in the comics, Ziggy.”
On whether he agrees with some draft ‘experts’ that think he needs some lower body work before being ready to play against the run in Pittsburgh’s 3-4 defense:
“I don’t know about more strength in the lower body – I squat about 720 lbs.”
