Jerod Mayo on Friend and College Teammate Arian Foster: “Hopefully He’s Not a Good Back Against Us”
Football fans will see a huge potential AFC championship game preview tonight in Foxboro, with the New England Patriots hosting the Houston Texans as the two jockey for positioning atop the conference. But there’s extra motivation for Jerod Mayo and Arian Foster, who meet with a chance to establish bragging rights between two friends who played together at Tennessee.
Jerod Mayo joined Dennis and Callahan on WEEI in Boston to discuss his friendship with opposing running back Arian Foster, Foster leading the Texans’ offense and Monday night’s game, which could be a rainy one.
On his relationship with Arian Foster dating to their time at Tennessee:
“Arian and I became close because every time I was spending extra time in the facility he would always be there. We didn’t come in friends or anything like that, but we just happened to become friends because both of us like to work hard.”
On if he was surprised Foster wasn’t drafted:
“He’s been doing it now for multiple years, so I was surprised, but at the same time I knew he was a good back. Hopefully he’s not a good back against us.”
On if shutting down Foster can throw the Texans off:
“No matter what the score is, they pretty much stay the same. It’s been working up to this point — they’re 11-1, why would they change now? It’s pretty much stayed the same no matter what.”
On the call in the forecast for rain and how it could affect the game:
“Obviously you have to be concerned with your footing, but at the end of the day, we’re not playing against the weather. I’ve said this before: We’re playing against the Houston Texans and they’re on the same field that we are.”
