Junior Dos Santos Agrees With Brock Lesnar’s Decision To Retire, Calls For A Knockout In The Overeem Fight

Junior Dos Santos had a keen eye on UFC 141 last month. The UFC heavyweight champion knew that the winner of the fight between Brock Lesnar and Alistair Overeem would be coming after his heavyweight title. Turns out it will be Overeem and not Lesnar, like Dos Santos originally thought. At UFC 141, Lesnar returned to the cage for the first time after a long layoff and was completely outclassed and dominated by “The Reem.” So now Dos Santos will defend his heavyweight title for the first time against the hard-hitting, world-class kickboxing monster Alistair Overeem. Dos Santos has just one loss on his resume while Overeem has won 12 straight fights. When they get together inside the cage, the style of both fighters will make it one to watch.

Junior Dos Santos joined 710 ESPN in Seattle with Bob Stelton to talk about whether or not The Ultimate Fighter was a good experience for him and a way to get him more well known around UFC, if he was surprised Brock Lesnar lost to Alistair Overeem, whether or not he was surprised Brock Lesnar retired, and when he is going to fight Alistair Overeem.

Whether or not The Ultimate Fighter was a good experience for him:

“I think so. It was a really good experience for me and made some friends there you know. My team was a really good team and treated me well. Was a really good experience and could do again.”

If he was surprised Brock Lesnar lost to Alistair Overeem:

“I bet on, I said Brock Lesnar was going to win but the fight was a little bit different than I thought. Alistair Overeem was very smart in that fight and came in with a really good strategy. He beat Brock Lesnar pretty easy. He was smart and deserves that win.”

What he thinks about Brock Lesnar retiring:

“Yeah. A little bit surprised. Everybody likes to watch Brock fight. He’s a showman and I like to watch his fights too. If he thinks it’s time to retire I agree with that. He has kids so if he thinks it’s good for him then I agree with that.”

When he is going to fight Overeem and what he thinks about it:

“I don’t know when yet but I think it’s gonna be May or June or something like that. It will be my first fight to defend my title. I will be prepared to fight against him. He likes to strike and I like to strike so it’s gonna be a good fight for MMA fans because both heavyweights, like big guys hitting each other in the face somebody is gonna get knocked out. I hope it’s going to be him.”
