Kevin Durant is “Trying to Become A Complete Player.”

Kevin Durant is extremely impressive not only for his outstanding basketball skills but for his humble and hard-working nature.  He is always the first to the gym and the last to leave.  I don’t know of any other NBA player that works as hard as he does at his game and is never satisifed.  The sky is really the limit for this kid and he is only  years old.   Sometimes you get the feeling he has no idea just how good he really is.  The 6′9″ forward with a freakish  wingspan has natural abilities that can’t be taught. In addition to undoubtedly being named to the All-Star team this year, his name just may be included prominently in MVP talks.Kevin Durant joined ESPN 980 in DC to talk about what he has to do to make the Oklahoma City Thunder better, what his personal goals were to improve on the offseason, how much of an improvement he expects this year as a team, what teammate he is leaning on the most to help the team, and how James Harden fits into the team.

On what he has to do to make the Oklahoma City Thunder better:

“I got to be more of a leader for this team. Lead by example. Be more vocal. Collectively as a group we got to find what we have been learning in training camp…Towards the end of the season last year which is become a better defensive team. I think if we all feed into what we are trying to do on the defensive end we will continue to get better.”

On what his personal goals were to improve on the offseason:

“Oh man just everything trying to become a complete player. I went up to Georgetown right after the season was over and I put myself to work on being more of a defender, passing the basketball and small things like that… Just a pickup game to make my game better. I did that all summer to get myself better. Now that the season is rolling around hopefully it shows.”

On how much of an improvement he expects this year as a team:

“I think experience is a key as we continue to grow you continue to get that game experience. Our game is going to get better as a team. We have a lot of young guys, but we have a couple of veterans that have been through a lot in this league to help us out as well. Once we continue to get the reps in as a group I think we are going to get better. We have got to become a better defensive team. Offensively we need to share the basketball. I think the sky is the limit for us.”On what teammate he is leaning on the most to help the team:“There are a couple of guys. I think Kyle Weaver is a guy that we need to lean on to help us out on both ends. Then on point guard at a 2 and then help us out on the defensive end. Jeff Green has to step his game up his game a lot too being a starter at that 4 spot making it difficult for a team to guard. I think those 2 guys mainly are going to help us out on both ends. We have a lot of faith in him and we are excited for him.”On how James Harden fits into the team:“First off, he is a great guy off of the floor and buys into what we are trying to do here. On the offensive end he is a guy that can play three positions: point guard, shooting guard and small forward. He can help us bring the ball up and create for other players. I think one of the best things about his game is that he can pass the basketball. He is also a shooter too. He is going to help us out tremendously.
