LeSean McCoy Claims Eagles Were Upset With Beating Browns By Small Margin, Jeremy Maclin Complains About Replacement Officials

The Philadelphia Eagles have one of the most talented rosters in all of football, yet they came out in the first week against the Cleveland Browns and looked anything but a championship contender. Now it’s only one game, but the Eagles were sloppy with a combinations of bad penalties, turnovers and mistakes. Philadelphia was able to sneak out of Cleveland with a victory late in the 4th quarter on a Clay Harbor touchdown catch. LeSean McCoy knows his teammates expect better out of themselves while Jeremy Maclin is nursing a hip pointer injury. LeSean McCoy joined WIP in Philadelphia with Anthony Gargano and Ike Reese to discuss being satisfied with the amount of carries he got last week, Michael Vick’s demeanor last Sunday, the reason behind the Eagles poor play against the Browns and the Philadelphia Eagles not being satisfied with their win over the Browns last week.

You only had 20 carries in the game. Do you wish you had more?

“Well that was a tough game. The emotions go up and down with so many turnovers and penalties. I think the penalties kind of killed us. I felt like we moved the ball well at certain times. I thought penalties killed us. It kind of changes the momentum of a game at certain times of the game.

What was Michael Vick’s demeanor like on Sunday?

“He was the same. I think each player has a bad game sometimes. He’s normal. He feels better. That is the biggest thing. It doesn’t matter how the game is going or what plays he missed or didn’t miss. He made sure he kept everybody together. He kept everybody confident in the huddle and he drove down the field for the winning touchdown.”

Do you think the Eagles played poorly against the Browns because of the rust factor and the first unit not playing that much in the preseason?

“I’m not really sure. I don’t want to make excuses of what happened. There was tons of mistakes. I made some of the mistakes last game with fumbling. I usually never fumble. I gave up a fumble early in the game. I think so many things went wrong. We rely on Michael Vick to follow us because he’s such a great player, a great athlete. You get spoiled sometimes where a bad plays happens and he [Michael Vick] gets you out of it. It’s all about supporting him better and his supporting cast. I don’t think it’s just him. It’s everybody.”

How do you keep the troops motivated?

“Well the good things about it is that not a lot of guys were not satisfied [with the win against the Browns]. It was one of those things where we expected to win. We expected to win big, so when we won by that small margin a lot of guys were upset. They felt like we did more, but that’s a good thing. I think the attitude is there. I think it’s just a matter of coming out next week and kind of improving in so many ways and trying to put more points up and play better together. That’s the biggest thing.”
