While the world waits in wonder about a possible Manny Pacquiao-Floyd Mayweather Jr. fight, the Pacman looks like he will have his hands full Saturday night. It has been seven years since Pacquiao lost his last fight and the young, up-and-coming Timothy Bradley might be the one fighter not named Mayweather with the best chance to end that string of W’s Saturday night. Bradley hasn’t really captured boxing headlines. After all, he stays out of the press, he isn’t loud, he doesn’t have great power and he isn’t very imposing. Don’t let that fool you though because Bradley brings his unblemished 28-0 record to the ring and he has been waiting for his moment in the spotlight. The spotlight will be shining on him Saturday night as he looks to take down Manny Pacquiao. Timothy Bradley joined WQAM in Miami with Dan Sileo to talk about his fight Saturday against Manny Pacquiao Saturday, whether he feels like this is the fight that he has always waited for, why he thinks he will be the one to beat Manny Pacquiao and if he thinks Pacquiao is completely focused on this fight Saturday night.
On his fight Saturday night against Manny Pacquiao:
“Oh absolutely. You know I bring the pain and I come to fight. This is an opportunity of a lifetime; this is what I have been waiting on 18 years of my life. I’m ready to put it all on the line. I’m ready to put it all on the line Saturday night. He’s facing a young, hungry fighter looking for greatness.
Whether he feels like this is the fight that he has always waited for:
“Absolutely. 18 years of my life, since I started boxing and it has taken me to this moment. It’s a long journey to get here but it’s finally here and now I’m saying to myself ‘what are you going to do Bradley? You have to win this fight. It’s a must-win for you in order to move further in your career.”
On why he thinks he will be the one to beat Manny Pacquiao:
“Because I feel ‘Manny Time’ is up. His time is definitely up and I feel that it’s my time. I’ve wanted 18 years but for four years I have been calling this guy out. Never got looked at, never got a shot and the fact that four years later I get this fight, it’s my time. The fact that Manny Pacquiao hasn’t been looking that great his last couple of fights, the fact that he hasn’t faced a young guy with my type of skill and my type of speed and power so this is not another washed up opponent or fixed opponent. This fight, he had to take this fight. He had no other options. Is this the first fight that he wanted to have to fight? No. I wasn’t the first pick but he was forced into this and now we’re going to see what Manny Pacquiao is really made of.”
If he thinks Pacquiao will be completely focused Saturday night:
“I hope that he is not focused but I think the fact that he has found himself, his religion, he doesn’t have that big entourage anymore which has kind of tapered down a little bit but I’m expecting a tough, tough Manny Pacquiao, I’m expecting the best. I want the best because that is going to make me even better. The harder the competition, the harder you fight.”
